NASA's Artemis II mission successfully launched Wednesday evening, marking the first crewed flight around the Moon since 1972. This mission also has local ties.

Bryan and Barry Bohnsack, the sons of Denise and the late Jim Bohnsack, formerly of Bartlesville, are both employed by Lockheed Martin Space Division, launching in partnership with NASA, and both worked on the project.. Bartlesville Radio attempted to speak with the two, but Lockheed Martin company rules did not allow media interviews with employees on launch day.

The 10-day Artemis II mission will test the Orion spacecraft's life-support systems with four astronauts—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen—aboard, paving the way for future lunar landings.
